Hedda Lettuce is back at the Island Breeze restaurant with a new show for the new season. I caught her second night, on June 13. Twistie was her DJ.
Hedda branded a heckler “the evil voice inside my head.” She teased Pines boys—and most everyone else, including the plethora of show biz types present—a playwright, a pianist, a cabaret singer, an original “Jersey Boys” cast member, a dancer, and so on—and the Brazilian in a borrowed crop top, the Russian, the Texan, and the guy from Flushing.
She selected three young men from the audience to play “Pocketbook Prize and Surprise”—which explained the three purses she had on her table on stage—and the contestants were Carson the birthday boy, Price the Texan, and the Brazilian. Hedda had the lads “walk the runway”—the center aisle, that is—model style, and then conducted a swimsuit competition. Price, who wore no swimsuit at all, just his eagle tattoo, won by audience acclaim and got to choose which purse he thought would contain the best prize. He won a “ceramic lady” cup, rather than the lube—the petroleum jelly, accompanied by a roll of toilet paper, or the Boy Butter, with a selection of cock rings.
Then the diva sang us her “Drag Queen Blues,” the cross dresser’s comic lament, complete with scatting and, for a grand finale, gave us religion with “Jesus Take the Wheel (’cause I’m too drunk to drive),” an audience sing-along.
