Jack Ebert, longtime resident of the house Fantazia, in Cherry Grove, and of Fort Lauderdale, passed away in Florida on March 3, Nicole Brems reported in Cherry Grove Untucked. An opera lover and a Leatherman, who had been President of the defunct Long Island Spuds Motorcycle Club and ran for Mr. Fire Island Leather in 2001, the first year of the contest, Jack was predeceased by his longtime life partner Gerry Gerardi, next to whom he will be buried in Pinelawn Cemetery.
According to Jack’s Facebook page, he was originally from Massapequa, Long Island, studied at Farmingdale Senior High School and State University of New York at Farmingdale, and had been a Senior Instrumentation Engineer at Grumman Aerospace.
Some of us remember attending “the 36th anniversary of Jack Ebert’s 35th birthday,” an outdoor barbecue at Fantazia on June 18, 2005, at the invitation of Bob Lerch and Jim Fitzgerald. At the time, this writer wrote, in these pages, “At the afternoon party, there were good company, great food, and a decorative bartender with a knack for mixing drinks with his own special stirrer.”
