Two weeks after holding its first-ever South Florida In-Town Party, in Fort Lauderdale on February 24, the Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) threw its annual In-Town Party in New York City, at SAGE (Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders), in Chelsea, and 112 members were in attendance.
The assembled celebrated the 65th anniversary of APCG’s founding, in 1948, with a cake and the singing of “Happy Birthday,” led by APCG President Thom “Panzi” Hansen, and a scrumptious brunch of different kinds of quiche, salads, fruit, and cupcakes, lovingly put together by Phil “Philomena” Stoehr.
APCG will begin its summer 2013 season in Cherry Grove with, in May, a Flea Market on the 17th and 18th, a VIP reception on the 25th, and the annual membership party and election of the Homecoming Queen on Memorial Day Eve, the 26th.
In June, there will be the APCG membership meeting on the 1st, a celebration of the life of Harold Seeley, late Grove Archbishop, Archivist, and set designer extraordinaire, on the 8th, a theatrical show on the 22nd, and Ian Mairs’ “Our David,” with Denis O’Hare and Sloane Shelton on the 29th.
In July, following the Grove Invasion of the Pines, led by its founder and first Homecoming Queen Panzi, on the 4th, there will be a show directed by Panzi on the 6th, and Casino on the 27th. Also in July, weekly Bingo games, yoga sessions, and meetings of the Opera Discussion Group will begin for the season.
August brings the annual Art Show on the 3rd and 4th, “Wigsticks” on the 17th, Greg Scarnici’s show “Sex Tapes” on the 23rd, an APCG theatrical show to be announced on the 24th, and Matt Baney’s show “Legends IV: Project Runway,” continuing his series celebrating the Homecoming Queens, on the 31st.
The climax of APCG’s season at the beach will be the annual end-of-season Gala Ball on September 28.
