Bella gave her only Ice Palace show of the season on July 15, with DJ Chuck McTague assisting. Some long-time friends joined her on stage, while the audience was filled with many others. Bella dedicated this night of entertainment and fond memories to the late Lee Huot.
Bella’s lusty opening number was “Bring on the Men,” from “Jekyll and Hyde.” Then she described her efforts to inseminate one of her dogs artificially and asked audience members to talk about their most embarrassing experiences. She later spoke of haggling with Costco employees over free samples and offered her take on demonstrative mourners at funerals. Tom Cruise and John Travolta’s sexual orientation was another topic of discussion, with input from Grove Hotel and Ice Palace General Manager Sal Piro.
Demi-Tasse portrayed Cher, doing a pairing of “Sonny Boy” and “Rockabye Your Baby.” Anne Tique emoted in “Feeling Good,” and she and Demi, both past Empresses of New York, joined forces to spar in “Enough Is Enough/No More Tears” parody “This is the last duet.” Ivanna Cocktail let us know about the man you settle for: “He ain’t Mr. Right, but he’s Mr. Right Now.”
Bella closed with her popular menopause number, “I’m a middle-aged woman (Hot flash!)”
Catch Bella, with the Shapiro Sisters, Rose Levine, and other Grove stars, in the 16th annual Doctor’s Fund Benefit show at the Community House on July 28. Tickets are priced at $30.
