Ariel Sinclair’s final Kamikaze Kabaret comedy show of the season took place at the Ice Palace on September 1. Assisted by DJ Chuck McTague, Ariel opened the show with the riotous “My Vagina is Eight Miles Wide,” with the M & Ms, Michael Moran and Matthew George, as backup dancers. In a country number, she declared, “I’m checking out of the Heartbreak Hotel.”
Guest singer Brandon Cutrell urged, “Come on, baby, let the good times roll” and dedicated “Feeling Good” to Tom Castele and John Wozniak, who first brought him to Fire Island a dozen years ago. Gusty Winds offered a “Designing Women” monologue about a most memorable Miss Georgia pageant and the Bette Midler number about “Dr. Longjohn,” the marvelously accommodating dentist.
Logan Hardcore’s number combined bits of the likes of “We Are Family,” “R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” and “’Cause I’m a W-O-M-A-N” with choice dialogue from “Mommie Dearest” and “Precious.” She and Ariel hosted a joke-off contest, which Jody Cole Wood and Angela Smith won, and a modeling contest, which young Gabriel won, with Rebecca as runner-up.
The headliner was English comic Sherry Davey, who held forth about the Royal Family—“It’s like dogs and horses have mated”—and English stereotypes promoted by “Mary Poppins,” “Murder, She Wrote,” and “Oliver Twist.” She also made pointed comments about Brooklyn and having teenage children.
“I hope you dance,” was Ariel’s closing wish for us.
