Playing to a full house, Charity capped her season at Cherry’s, on September 12, with a show chock full of guest performers, including four singers, before she returns to Lips in Fort Lauderdale. Manny served as DJ. “I’m experienced,” Charity told us, working the bar, and invited, nay demanded, suggestively, “Put in all in there.” Swinging, she declared, she had the “Rocking pneumonia and the boogie-woogie flu.”
Guest singer Dan Schlageter sang romantically, then forcefully, “I wanna hold your hand,” the Beatles song, and “You just call out my name.” Ken Woodhouse, selling it, offered “Johnny One Note” and “Son, be a dentist.” After Charity dedicated “Piece of My Heart” to Porsche, Porsche responded by singing “Someday Soon.” Johnny Pool sang, as Louis Armstrong, “What a Wonderful World.”
Mary Ooofaaa’s tribute to New York City included “I happen to like New York,” “Native New Yorker,” and Kander and Ebb’s “New York, New York.” Martina Skyy, the newly crowned Miss Cherry Grove, and Charity’s colleague at Lips; Sabel Scities, who just stepped down as reigning Miss Fire Island; newcomer Topaz; and Ann Phetamine also contributed numbers.
Charity closed with songs “Candy” and “A Tisket, A Tasket.”
