The season’s first Kamikaze Kabaret, the weekly comedy night hosted by the incomparable Ariel Sinclair, with DJ Chuck McTague on music and sound, took place on June 16. Ariel and her guest Evil Lynn, making a Fire Island stage debut, strutted their stuff in flashy opening numbers. Ariel later offered an irreverent Wendy Ho version of “That’s What Friends Are For,” as “That’s Why We Ain’t Friends.”

Two funny women from Massachusetts entertained. Selene Coppock, opening for lesbian comic Leah Dubie, held forth on her partial Native American heritage; children’s books she has edited, including one entitled, “What Are You Doing in My Bed?”—about animals!; “Amelia Bedelia;” dating guys from Boston and fifth-rate hockey players; and getting mugged by a bicyclist in Boston, but outrunning and outwitting the robber. Headliner Dubie shared observations about threesomes in hot tubs; giving up and resuming drinking; her girlfriend getting on her nerves; plus-size women; Amy Winehouse; and the over-use of the word “crazy.”

Logan Hardcore previewed her late-night show with an energetic dance number. And the evening included the popular Joke-Off contest, which was won by David.

Kamikaze Kabaret begins at 10 p.m. on Thursdays.
