Reigning Miss Fire Island Sabel Scities gave the first show at Cherry’s for the season, inaugurating the new stage there, on May 8. Entertainer of the Year Dallas Dubois was Sabel’s special guest and Manny served as DJ.
Sexy in black, Sabel insisted that, whatever they may think to call her, “That’s not my name,” and oozed, “I need a man” (“There’s just one thing that I’m looking for and he doesn’t wear a dress”). “Get outta my way,” she declared, radiating energy.
Dallas Dubois combined the Sherry Vine version of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” as “I just shit my pants,” with a homophobic speech from Uganda, maintaining that gays eat excrement, and a Wanda Sykes routine about finding a turd on a car seat, which certainly ranked as social commentary. Sabel stayed in theme with Wendy Ho’s raunchy take on “On the disco line” as “Not tonight in my anus” (“Please don’t fuck me in the ass tonight”).
Sabel interspersed Alanis Morissette’s “You Ought to Know” (“I’m here to remind you of the mess you left behind when you went away”), and “I’m a bitch, I’m a lover,” with quotes from “Mommie Dearest” and a monologue about “dick” in various sizes, and Dallas interrupted Beyoncé’s sweet “Listen” (“I am alone at a crossroads”) with Tourette Syndrome outbursts.
Sabel concluded her show with a tipsy rendition of the Gershwins’ “They All Laughed.”
Afterwards, our two artists obligingly posed for pictures with muscular friend Duke.
