“Summer Camp,” however one may interpret it, is the theme of Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) events for the summer 2011 season, and its variations were already in evidence when much of the membership came together for the annual In-Town Party, at the LGBT
Community Center in Manhattan, on March 6. Reigning Homecoming Queen Beach DeBree came as the camp’s Nurse DeBree, armed with a pillbox, tongue depressors, and a portable urinal for a purse. Consort Brian Clark was a boy scout, APCG President Michael Coffindaffer was a camp counselor, and Venus sans Penis was a girl scout.

The assembled enjoyed a gala brunch of camp favorites macaroni and cheese, chili, and pulled pork barbecue, with cookies and cupcakes for dessert, all provided by Kim Stahl and Trio Catering (Cateringwithkim@gmail.com).

New t-shirts, baseball caps, and tote bags, with the Summer Camp, Cherry Grove logo and a campfire to illustrate it, were on display. Campers showed off their talents molding clay into rabbits (Dr. Ellen Biggers), mushrooms, grapes (Dr. Patrick Fratellone), a self portrait (Empress Robin Kradles) and so on. And there was a food fight with marshmallows—I think Margo started it.

APCG’s full schedule for the summer should be available in April, and a new APCG web site, up and running by May.
