Ken Toht, of Cherry Grove and Bucks County, Pennsylvania, died of a massive heart attack on the morning of August 26 at the age of 61. Ken, who was the Information Science and Technology Administrator for Bucks County Community College in Newtown, is survived by his partner of the past 19 years, Stephen Kowalchik, who recently retired from teaching and is the longtime director of a church choir.
Friends had nicknamed Ken 'the Mayor' of the Grove, said Stephen, adding, "The one place on earth that he loved dearly was Cherry Grove." Ken was also a great devotee of singer Liza Minnelli and Stephen called him "more than a fan-he was a Liza fanatic." "He loved Broadway-he was always up on who was doing what on Broadway," Stephen said, noting that when Ken met Stephen, a classical musician, he extended that love and became "an opera queen."
Three memorials for Ken are planned: on September 15 at 5:30 p.m., a Catholic Mass for of the Resurrection at Olde St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, 135 South Sycamore Street, in Newtown PA, with visitation from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.; on September 20 at 7:30 p.m., a Memorial Service at Middle Collegiate Church at Second Avenue and East Seventh Street in Manhattan; and on October 2 at noon, a memorial at Ken and Stephen's home at 205 Surf Avenue in the Grove.
