On September 2, on a perhaps literally calm before the storm night, two favorite singers both in fine voice, sang at the Ice Palace, Sherry Vine, presented by Daniel Nardicio, in her only show of the season, and Porsche, both assisted by invaluable DJ Chuck McTague, as both Hurricane Earl and Labor Day Weekend were anticipated.

Sherry sang 10 songs, especially thrilling us with her dramatic, riveting "Port of Amsterdam," by Jacques Brel, though I would be remiss not to mention her Lady Gaga parodies-her version of "Alejandro," deploring hypocrisy in right-wing politicians, and reminding them, "You're a Homo," as well as her scatological answer to "Bad Romance."

Porsche probed more than two dozen numbers, some old school, some new school, and many in between, perhaps keeping us most particularly rapt as she introduced her intense "Soldier of Love," Sade's new song, and followed it with a very special moment shared with Chuck, as they joined voices in "Suddenly Seymour," from "Little Shop of Horrors."

Porsche and Chuck will appear at Therapy, in Manhattan, on September 21, and in the near future in Dayton, Ohio, Ft. Lauderdale, and Los Angeles, and will also be in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on October 23 for the gay and lesbian square dance club, the Times Squares' event.
