On September 11, we not only remembered our tragic losses of nine years ago, but also, at the Ice Palace, celebrated the victories of deserving winners of the 46th annual Miss Fire Island Pageant, produced by Sal Piro and hosted by Ariel Sinclair, Bella and Porsche.
Beating nine other contenders, Sable Scities, from Cherry's, was chosen as Miss Fire Island 2010, succeeding Miss FI 2009 Renée Flaming. Runners-up were Martina Skyy, named Miss Cherry Grove, and the new Miss Ice Palace, Tiffany Jae, who carried Tiffany shopping bags and tossed out souvenirs to some audience members. Another winner in this category was Aurora Stone, who gave out pizza to the judges and audience members, and netted the Judges Award.
Succeeding Logan Hardcore as Entertainer of the Year was the Ice Palace's own Dallas Dubois, who won by playing, first, a graceful Disney Princess wooed by two Prince Charmings to strains of "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes," whereupon all three stripped for an S&M-themed dance sequence. Dallas beat 18 other contestants, among whom were Jason Cozmo, who garnered the Most Popular Award, portraying Mary Poppins doing "Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious," and Maria von Trapp, with the title song from "The Sound of Music," "Do Re Mi," and "My Favorite Things;" and Sponsor Award winners Epiphany, a former Miss FI, who impressed by singing Kander & Ebb's "New York, New York," dressed as the Statue of Liberty, complete with crown, torch and book; Shiqueeta Li, who won with "I am changing" and "You're the perfect man for me;" Raven Glitters, who borrowed Shirley Bassey's voice for "Get This Party Started," and got it going with a six-pack of Coors Light; and Victoria Michaels, a former Entertainer of the Year, who danced and stripped to "Last Dance" and "Greatest Love."
Former New York City Gay Men's Chorus Queen Ambrosia succeeded Electra as Ms. Fire Island, beating four other candidates, including runner-up Mary Oofaa, who was dubbed Ms. Cherry Grove.
Gusty Winds, Philomena, the Island Mermaid's Scott Hirsch, Steel Gym New York muscleman Ken Hunt, the Pines Animal Welfare Society, Cherry Grove Chapter's Valerie Perez, Mr. Fire Island Leather 2010 Rob Ferri, and Lillias Piro were the judges. Dennis McConkey was the tally judge. Charity, the second Miss FI, joined by Rita George, the third Miss FI, introduced the judges, and Charity performed "Big, Blonde and Beautiful" from "Hairspray."
Brandon Cutrell sang the Star Spangled Banner and Johnny Savoy's Miss Fire Island anthem, and Kenny Holcomb harmonized and sparred with Brandon in duet "Does he love you like he loves me?" Bella introduced herself with "Bring On the Men," Porsche, by singing "'Cause I'm a Blonde," and Ariel, by pairing a "Wizard of Oz" parody medley with "My Vagina is Eight Miles Wide." For a final walk, Logan offered an acrobatic number in black leather and lace. DJs Chuck McTague and Manny Ojeda were responsible for music and sound.
Other Miss FI contestants were Christine Chandler, Gabriella, veteran China, Gina Marie Versace, Priscilla Meilhelani, and new Miss Long Island Madison Mansfield.
Tina Burner, Cindy Diamonds, Franchesque Richards doing an elegant striptease as ecdysiast Gypsy Rose Lee, Nikki Fierce, former Miss FI Dakota Sue, Defina as Bette Midler, Julie, Porscha Pitstop, Kika Koture, Mirkala Crystal, a bundle of energy in a Latin dance, Billy Little, peerless as Wanda Sykes, Spicky Hilton singing "It's Raining Men," and Victoria James were the others vying for the Entertainer of the Year title.
Rachel Renée Rothschild, Fiona St. James and Renée Ryan completed the slate of Ms. FI contenders.
