On September 19, at Cherry's, Gusty Winds, assisted by DJ Kevin Hammond, gave her final show of the season, which consisted of a potpourri of blockbusters, songs from musicals, and so on. Gusty quipped at the start that, because of recent complaints about noise in the community, she would do her entire show in sign language-she didn't-and showed off new high heels from the on-line Electrique Boutique, which were immediately coveted by Michael and Matthew, the M&Ms.
Gusty began with two larger-than-life portrayals, Mama Morton, practicing reciprocity in "When You're Good to Mama," from "Chicago," and Ursula, the Sea Witch, pitying those "Poor Unfortunate Souls," from "The Little Mermaid," with Renée Flaming contributing, impromptu, the role of Ariel, the mermaid. Gusty continued with "I Could Have Danced All Night," from "My Fair Lady."
Gusty has often favored us with the monologue, from "Designing Women," about "the night the lights went out in Georgia," and one of the selections in her season farewell was the song of the same name. Among the signature numbers that she offered were her impassioned "Total Eclipse of the Heart," part of it performed out on the dock, and a mystical and dramatic "Dreams," the Grace Slick song.
