The Imperial Court of New York has its Tough Drag. Cherry's has its Drag Attack. And on August 22, the Ice Palace had its first annual Turnabout Show, with men, who don't usually do drag, cross dressing, and sometimes appearing oddly reminiscent-with the emphasis on oddly-of familiar drag queens, and Brant (Porsche) serving as DJ, Ariel Sinclair and Logan Hardcore bartending, and cocktail waitron Sue Panzer, with a pencil-thin moustache and a do-rag, affecting a Latino look.
Aneeda Burger (John Doyle) emceed, assisted by Miss Crystal Meth, and offered her winning "Burger King" number. Shannon did a Logan Hardcore split during a first song by Ivanna Nailya (Ken Braun), seductive in leopard skin. Ivanna later stripped to "American Boy." Tulita Pepsi (Carlos) sported Pepsi bottles in her hair and joined Ava Gina (long i) for the Lady Gaga-Beyoncé "Telephone" duet. Lady Charles (DJ Chuck McTague) first sported a blonde Porsche wig; then cavorted in a green wig and Harlequin glasses to pay tribute to Dame Edith Piro (Sal) with "Movin' on Up;" and finally stripped to "The Best Thing about Being a Woman." Evangeline (Lawrence) paired Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl, I Liked It" and "That's What You Get for Waking Up in Vegas." Crystal addressed "Womanizer" to Sue. Sirena (Todd McMullen) confided, "I've had them all." And Missy Carriage of Justice (Ken Woodhouse), clearly cloned from Demi-Tasse, sang of "A Dream Come True."
Aneeda and Crystal also conducted a 'match the quotation with the Ice Palace dq' contest, which Ben, from the Excelsior bar, won, and a 'best orgasm' contest, with the gay couple emerging victorious.
"Don't Stop Believin'" was the company's grand finale.
Turnabout, the participants proved, was not only fair play, it also provided a bit of zany relief from 'ugly August.'
