Three events were highlights of a busy August 21 in Cherry Grove.

The Cherry Grove Archives' 30th Anniversary Show, a project of Archivist Harold Seeley, took place that afternoon and the following one at the Community House. Harold showed off treasures from the Archives-show posters, photos, house signs and other historic memorabilia. He showed me the three costumes that were sewn together to make his winning Miss Monster costume, circa 1981, in which he portrayed a 100-year-old ballerina, and we had a lively discussion about Fatima, the exotic portrait which hung in Duffy's, predecessor of the Ice Palace, and is now owned by the Stein family, of Sayville Ferry fame. Lorraine Michels had prepared souvenir packets of archival photos as gifts for many of us.

Grove theater history was the subject of that evening's Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) and Archives second annual Walk of Fame presentation "Show People!" With matchless Mistress of Ceremonies Sybil Bruncheon, garbed as Glinda the Good, presiding, panelists Bella, Tony Bondi, Susan and Ruth Freedner, Panzi, Philomena, Sal Piro, Harold-in his 1982 "Circus Circus" clown costume-and Sylvia and Shirley Shapiro shared reminiscences, dish, questions and answers and revelations, and mutual admiration, as they discussed performing in the theater in Cherry Grove. They disclosed their debut shows and most embarrassing moments and saluted Grove legends Dickie Addison-"bigger than life ... one of the icons of the community;" Maggie McCorkle; Rose Levine; Jeanne Skinner; Randy Riggs-"He always inspired me to do bigger and grander sets," said Harold; Teri Warren; Lois Fisher; Billie Ann Miller; and "the madcap" Mme. Stephanie-"She told it like it was," said Sylvia, and Tony added, "She was a cross between Mame and Joan Rivers." Susan inquired, "Philomena, did you ever know that the lesbians were hot for you?" and Sal called Philomena "the class act of all time." Tony revealed that, at the age of four, he was "voted the best baby in South Brooklyn." It was good to hear these veteran thespians' fascinating tales.

Rounding out the day was Cherry's White Party, with bar, staff and patrons all swathed in snowy white.
