On August 26, Robbyne Kaamil, of Howard Stern Show fame, presented by Daniel Nardicio, and Poppi Kramer, headliner for Ariel Sinclair's Kamikaze Kabaret season finale, brought hard-hitting, enlightening comedy and more to the Ice Palace.
Opening by singing "Tomorrow," a cappella, from "Annie," Kaamil declared that the real Little Orphan Annie was Sheniqua Johnson, a homeless orphan from Brooklyn, and regaled us with "ghetto haikus" and other piquant poetry. She lauded the distraction of good sex when Con Edison is about to cut off your electricity; urged separating the search for penis from the search for potential in a very temporary partner; offered pointed observations about those who stay in abusive relationships; and noted the usefulness of the word "motherfucker."
Kaamil deplored the absence of fried food franchises in Provincetown, but found saving grace in the presence of grits there; got a much-appreciated offering of fried food, from Cherry Lane Café, from Janice; and commented on the phenomenon of anorexia among assimilating Black women. She read an 18th century Virginia plantation owner's speech, concerning how to control slaves, as a prelude to singing a trenchant "Strange Fruit." Kaamil held forth on misplacing faith, in religion, the dollar, or politicians, and remembered Stonewall, before closing with "If My Friends Could See Me Now," from "Sweet Charity."
A symphony in gold, Ariel Sinclair, assisted by DJ Chuck McTague, opened her show with "Band of Gold." Comic Kramer averred, "I sing everything in the key of B(ea Arthur);" introduced us to the term "sitting pussy la la," i.e. with legs feyly crossed; and proffered pithy commentary about the Pines, New Jersey, and her winning 2006 stint on "The Biggest Loser." Other guests were Scott Ryan, who recommended that we fight to legalize marijuana and then, when all is mellow, sneak gay marriage through; singer-songwriter Shana Sharr-"please don't cum in my magical pussy;" and Cindy Diamond-"Way of Love." Ariel closed with a number dedicated to the Grove ("I hope you dance").
