Ariel Sinclair's first Kamikaze Kabaret of the season, at the Ice Palace, was on June 24 and guests were not only comics Lea Dubie and her colleagues, but also singer Brandon Cutrell, host of Broadway at the Beach here and of the After Party in New York City. Chuck McTague served as DJ.
A glittery Ariel, with a pink boa, let us know what it takes to get to "The Big Time;" then cavorted to Sandi Patty's variations on "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," including a wild high coloratura one; and generously shared that "My Vagina Is Eight Miles Wide."
Featured comic Lea held forth on glory holes-"There's one in my hotel room"-which she said her mother didn't quite understand, visualizing something guillotine-like; the true definition of crazy: Amy Winehouse; coming out to co-workers: "they tell you about their one gay experience;" getting named only 'second most confident' in her high school senior class; and rescue dogs: "All the Katrina dogs will be traded in for Haitian dogs, because no-one wants to be seen with a last-disaster rescue." The other comics were Danny Leary and Selena-the "token heterosexual"-whose idea for a bachelorette party in the woods was that a fierce bear should call on the bride-to-be and turn out to be a costumed stripper.
Brandon introduced a song new to his repertory, "Feeling Good," and sang it fervently. He continued with a signature pairing, "Tonight's the Night" and "Let's Misbehave."
Ariel hosted a 'Dancing with the Bras' contest among Cameron, Patrick-who won-and Trevor, and a Joke-Off contest, in which Mark Atten's nun jokes were the highlight.
