The big community event of the first weekend in June in the Pines was the June 5 SAGE tribute party for Alan Brockman, long time former president of the Fire Island Pines Property Owners Association (FIPPOA) and still referred to by many as the mayor of the Pines. The entire Old Guard of FIP was in attendance at Whyte Hall, of course well peppered with current FIPPOA board members and Alan's many friends and neighbors. Following the event there was a beautiful dinner party at the bay-front palatial home of Dr Ed Schulhaffer and Crayton Robey, Ed's partner and the director and writer of "Where Ocean Meets Sky," the documentary film about FIP that had aired on Logo.
Downtown, DJ Lina's tea, hi, lo, and middle tea all pulled in big crowds, not quite as many as the Memorial Day holiday weekend, but still a strong showing of Boys Who Want to Be in the Sand. Many fresh young faces have arrived this summer, alongside the regulars.
The Pavillion was packed with the tunes of Junior Vasquez on Saturday night and Sip 'n' Twirl kept the pace going for the mellower crowd.
The pool party and gym both did well, as the newest spots to hang during the day in the Pines, and the Blue Whale restaurant opened to rave reviews from the Pines Queens-and they are a fussy bunch!
Killer and Bambi Sue were dragged to a Lesbian birthday party at Steven Rosen and Ron Blum's house by masseur Sean Simpson and Mimi, a Fire Island virgin and straight girl of the day, who made quite a hit with the ladies and showed great flexibility in her appetite-initiation complete!
