Victoria Weston & Porsche Join Forces for Song Lover's Delight

Victoria Weston & Porsche
....................................................................................................
The Ice Palace's two greatest singers, of the 1990s and 2000s, Victoria Weston and Porsche, gave a show together for the first time, on September 11, and their effort, with the assistance of DJ Chuck, proved nothing less than a song lover's delight. It was the eve of the Miss Fire Island pageant, in which Victoria, a past Miss FI, as well as past Empress of New York, would be competing, on her birthday, for the title of Ms. FI.
In addition to their solo numbers, the two divas collaborated on a Patsy Cline medley, mellifluously harmonizing on "I Fall to Pieces" and "Crazy," with Porsche's "Walking after midnight" and Victoria's "Sweet dreams" between the duets, and, later, on a swinging "The Lady Is a Tramp," sung as "This Drag Queen Is a Tramp."
Her voice supple and solid as ever, throughout a wide range, Victoria sang a seductive "Broadway Baby," from "Follies;" a brassy but classy "Nobody does it like me," from "Seesaw;" and a fiery and fiercely devoted "My Man," paired with "Don't rain on my parade," with drive, from "Funny Girl." She concluded her first set with a powerhouse "Night and Day."
Porsche opened with "Fame" and "I'm trouble." Pines boys joined her on stage when they heard that "There's a party in the U.S.A." She sang, "You can't stop the beat," from "Hairspray," in the voices, successively, of Wanda Sykes, Megan Mullally as Karen Walker, Carol Channing, Harvey Fierstein, and Eartha Kitt, a tour-de-force, and followed it with "Big Spender," from "Sweet Charity," Shirley Bassey-style.
Victoria lyrically looked at love from both sides, cynically in "I wish I were in love again" and sincerely in "Let's fall in love," to which she added "All of me." She sang a sultry "I am changing," from "Dreamgirls," dazzled us with "I want more," and ended her second set with "The blues in the night," a searing specialty of hers.
Porsche sang, "You've got me begging for mercy" and danced with Adam Weaver, from the Pines. At the request of Nikki Starr, who would give up the Ms. FI title the next day, she proceeded to some penetrating Stevie Nicks ("I saw my reflection"), and told off an errant love in Eykah Badu's "Tyrone." After Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" and Cyndi Lauper's "Time after time," which opened her third set, Porsche poured soul and voice into Janis Joplin's "Try a little bit harder" and then became Elaine Stritch, wryly belting out "Ladies who lunch," from "Company."
Victoria had the last word, singing, as an encore, "Save the best for last," as a proud anthem of self-respect in the face of homophobia, with her own lyrics, as "Baby, kiss my ass."
