Into the Pines Kitchen contains 200 recipes from 100 contributors, including Pines notables Scott Bromley, Gilbert Parker, and Hal Rubinstein. As a nod to bygone days, the book also features a posthumous contribution from John Whyte, one of the Pines' founders. The book includes original photography of the island from Pines artists William Karam, Mark Lonsbury, and Barbara Sahlman. •More About this Book»

The next-to-last weekend of "Porsche Live" shows for the season, at the Ice Palace, with the diva assisted by faithful DJ Chuck McTague, closed on September 20 with an evening, made up mostly of requests, which encompassed some very lyrical selections, generous helpings of Shirley Bassey and of Broadway, and, from Christmas Eve baby Porsche, an early detour into music which makes the Yuletide gay.
Porsche welcomed us with a refreshing "Native New Yorker. She gave us a little Andrews Sisters-gone-Yiddish, in a cheerful "Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen;" stayed in the upbeat jazz groove with "Them There Eyes," Billie Holiday-style; and remembered Ella with a lyrical "A Tisket, A Tasket." Porsche evoked Sidney Poiter and Lulu with a sincere "To Sir, with Love," dedicated to Shequida.
Porsche poured out passion in "Something in the Way He Moves," Shirley Bassey's version of the Beatles number. She became Porsche-as-Shirley-as-volcanic-earth-mother in "History Repeating," at my request, and, staying with Bassey, concluded the group with "Big Spender," the request of sweet Charity herself.
There were excursions into Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse ("I told you I was trouble, you know that I'm no good"), and Cyndi Lauper ("Time after Time").
On a different note, Porsche regaled us with an enthusiastic "Good Morning, Baltimore," from "Hairspray," also my request, and touched us with Bette Midler anthem "The Rose." Singing a lilting "Close to You" led to further Karen Carpenter, with "Merry Christmas, Darling," and, once in that vein "Sleigh Ride," à la Judy Garland and, purring like Eartha Kitt, "Santa Baby." Jerry/Renée Ryan dumped huge prop candy canes onto the stage, derailing Porsche's proposed "White Christmas," but prompting her swinging "Sweet like a sugar-coated candy man."
Porsche invoked Evita in a spirited "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina;" then took us to back the psychedelic '60s with Grace Slick's "White Rabbit;" allowed a caustic look, like Elaine Stritch, at those "Ladies Who Lunch," from "Company;" and, in a 'drag king' moment, ended with Elvis' "Falling in Love with You."
Porsche's final shows for the season are scheduled for September 25 and 27.
