'I've Been to a Marvelous Party': Spending 'the Last Days of Pompeii' at (Baña) Belvedere

How did the city of Pompeii really spend its final days, before being engulfed by lava flow from the erupting Mount Vesuvius (or "Vesuvias Erumpo")? Apparently occupied with copious amounts of glitter, flesh, and dance, to judge by "Baña Belvedere: the Last Days of Pompeii," a gala party at the Belvedere Guest House for Men, given by Belvedere, the Baña Pool Party, party giver Paul Short, and rentboy.com, during the weekend of September 11 to 13, while much of downtown Cherry Grove's attention was devoted to the Miss Fire Island pageant. Considered here is the "Vesuvias Erumpo" party, the event's centerpiece, and the performances that were part of it, on the afternoon and evening of September 12, when the weather, during what began as a stormy weekend, for the most part cooperated.

DJs Billy Beyond and Gustavo provided the music and Larry Shea and Stephen Kent, the visuals. The rentboy.com dancers, in various states of undress, entertained throughout the party, the cocktails flowed, and the hot tub bubbled merrily. Grilled hamburgers, hotdogs, and sausages were available, and the swans glided by, looking for handouts of bread. The event, for which attendees paid $100, 200 or 300, benefited the Cherry Grove Doctor's Fund.

Before a smoky, smoldering Mount Vesuvius, on the deck, at sunset, performance artist Narcissister gave the first of her three performances, graphically costumed to portray, to appropriately orgasmic moans, a very pink vagina, with furry pubic hair, caught in the act of coital penetration, and adorned, at the climax, with a lacy white fabric 'cum' trail. In her later performances, Narcissister entered, to strains of "I'm Every Woman," nearly nude, but for face mask and huge Afro, and managed to dress herself onstage completely in garments pulled from the wig and from various orifices, and then, emerged from a glittery hotdog to play a waitress, serving hotdogs, and seasoning them with mustard and relish, dispensed, ostensibly from her breasts.

The glittering and nearly naked Dazzle Dancers dazzled us by reacting to the erupting volcano with their interpretation of the "Goddess" number from the film "Showgirls." Finally, much-tattooed Pharaoh, nude but for a fluffy white codpiece, entertained by dancing while twirling a colorfully lit-up hoola hoop
The site of Excelsior Motorcycle Club's Leather Weekend, just prior to Memorial Day Weekend and, now, of Baña Belvedere, just after Labor Day Weekend, clothing optional dream castle Belvedere proved itself once again the perfect venue for a sybaritic and marvelous party.
