Into the Pines Kitchen contains 200 recipes from 100 contributors, including Pines notables Scott Bromley, Gilbert Parker, and Hal Rubinstein. As a nod to bygone days, the book also features a posthumous contribution from John Whyte, one of the Pines' founders. The book includes original photography of the island from Pines artists William Karam, Mark Lonsbury, and Barbara Sahlman. •More About this Book»

At Ariel Sinclair's final Kamikaze Kabaret of the season, at the Ice Palace on September 3, bearish young comic Brad Loekle was the headliner. Holding forth on "bottom pride," Brad told of a top, who boasted, "I have nine inches, uncut," to which 'comedian cub' responded, "I have a mile-and-a-half of large intestine. If you make it to my spleen, I might remember your name." Brad also covered bargain transsexual surgery in Thailand and tense relations with his relations. His colleagues who performed were Cara Kilduff, a lesbian comic, who went over well with the audience, and Adam Lehman, a gay male comic, who was heckled about political incorrectness.
With DJ Chuck assisting, an unusually meek and mild Ariel addressed a sincere, "I love you, I honestly love you" to her dildo and, in quick succession, ordered her love out of her life, then freaked out that she did. Martina Skyy offered Wendy Ho's rude number, "I stole your purse." Ariel concluded with a "thank you" song to her audience.
Versatile singer Porsche's show, consisting of nearly two dozen numbers, followed, again with DJ Chuck's invaluable assistance. Porsche began with "Fame," "This will be an everlasting love," and "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," in the styles of Marilyn Monroe and Carol Channing, who had actually sung it, and Megan Mullally as Karen Walker, who hadn't. Porsche remembered Nina Simone with her arrangement of "Love me or leave me," and Eartha Kitt, by purring, "I want to be evil."
After Bette Midler song "Stuff like that there, Porsche took us to the country for a song of revenge, "Right now" ("Maybe next time, he'll think before he cheats"), and in Erykah Badu's "Tyrone," warned an errant lover, in no uncertain terms, to get his act together. Porsche gave us some Miley Cyrus ("I can't wait to see you again) and some Cher ("Take me home"), before turning to inanely joyous country song "Coal Mine," with backup dancers Brad and Martina. Following a Stevie Nicks number, Porsche's account of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" was every bit the tour-de-force it should be.
Porsche turned her talents to "Satisfaction" and to "Come on in my house," in Japanese, before airing a Shirley Bassey rarity about an effort to "change my lonely life." Her tour of the psychedelic 1960s took in "White Rabbit," "Somebody to Love," and "Summertime," Janis Joplin-style. Her encore, in response to increasingly frequent 911 calls about the volume of music emerging from commercial establishments, was to lead a sing along, a cappella of course, of Janis' "Oh, Lord Won't You Buy Me."
