Singers & Participants in Newcomer Contest Headline Season's Penultimate Kabaret

For the season's next-to-last Kamikaze Kabaret, at the Ice Palace on August 27, hostess Ariel Sinclair, assisted by DJ Chuck, presented four singers and a number of participants in the Newcomer of the Year pageant, which followed her show. For her own numbers, Ariel confessed to being "Everybody's Girl" and gave a comic salute to cuisine "down Mexico way" ("Serve a beef enchilada").
Two singers, who were headliners in the past Monday's "Broadway at the Beach," again shared their talents. Sean Palmer ("Little Mermaid," "Sex in the City") sang a forceful "All Is Fair (in love)," the Stevie Wonder song. And Taylor Frey ("Finian's Rainbow") sweetly opined, "You say it best when you say nothing at all." Another guest, Chino, dulcetly offered, "I believe I can fly," his voice indeed soaring. And Hazel Nutt, best known for lip-synching to Celine Dion hits, sang persuasively, in her own voice, "Let's give them something to talk about," and appeared as Dion as well.
Hazel Nutt later entered the Newcomer contest, as did Dallas Dubois, who sported a Hawaiian look for "Fever" and a probe of the plight of the alto ("Give me a chance to sing melody"). Logan Hardcore, stepping down as Newcomer 2008, did several numbers-"Everything you own is in a box to the left;" "Pride/Deeper Love;" and, using a very elastic dildo-a gummi penis?-as a microphone and so on, "If I were a boy." Ariel was a Newcomer of the Year judge, as was Jason Cozmo, who portrayed an increasingly tipsy Lucy, hawking Vitameatavegamin, and a dynamo of a Liza, doing "Some People," from "Gypsy," and "New York, New York."
