There was late night entertainment aplenty, of the vocal variety, in various Grove establishments, on August 6.
Spicky Hilton has been singing at Island Breeze and I caught up with her show there, with DJ Randy Baker, that night. After a sound check with "Private Dancer," which she invited this writer to sing with her, Spicky sang "Redneck Woman" to the lesbians present; "Baby, hush, hush," with a bit of "I Will Survive" mixed in; "Dov'è l'amore?" in English and Italian; and particularly romantic renditions of "At Last" and "Saving all my love for you."
I heard "At Last" again, at the Ice Palace, where Porsche was singing her last Thursday night show with DJ Chuck-Saturday will be her new night, in addition to her usual Fridays and Sundays. Preceded by "Smooth Operator," Porsche's "At Last" inspired people to join her onstage and dance. Her guest, Alexia, sang her own version of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" as "I gotta go back to the bar," and then Porsche and Alexia duetted with "Aquarius" and "Let the Sun Shine," from "Hair."
Jackie Dupree, who had sung an earlier show at Cherry's, returned for a 2 a.m. show, with DJ Mark, and several guests. After a couple of rap numbers, she sang, "Be my American boy" to Mr. Fire Island Leather 2004 Jeff Goodman, and Spicky joined her for "Beautiful Liar." Jackie also favored us with "Sweetest Hangover" and a Michael Jackson tribute. Latifah Tigress, Shenida Husband, and Dallas Dubois also did numbers.
