Into the Pines Kitchen contains 200 recipes from 100 contributors, including Pines notables Scott Bromley, Gilbert Parker, and Hal Rubinstein. As a nod to bygone days, the book also features a posthumous contribution from John Whyte, one of the Pines' founders. The book includes original photography of the island from Pines artists William Karam, Mark Lonsbury, and Barbara Sahlman. •More About this Book»

Who could complain when a Tuesday night brings three singers-actually four, counting a guest appearance-to the stages of the Grove? On August 4, Sherry Vine and Epiphany joined forces for a wild show at the Ice Palace, in the spirit of their "Blonde Leading the Blonde," which they do in the city-though Epiphany was a redhead for this occasion-and Randy Baker served as guest DJ. And Aunt Joanna, billed as "the gal with a gazillion voices," returned to Cherry's and DJ Manny assisted.
Sherry and Epiphany blended their voices in a bold and brassy "All That Jazz," from "Chicago," to begin, and lauded their many accomplishments, singing, "'Cause I'm a Woman, W-O-M-A-N." In rollicking duet, they urged us to the "(friendly little) Love Shack," for amorous adventure," and harmonized on "Valerie," the Amy Winehouse number about-what else?-drugs. The divas also engaged in debate about the late Michael Jackson.
In a solo turn, in her answer to a certain Lady GAGA hit, Sherry probed the phenomenon of tranny chasers, singing, "Can you please just poke my face?" and, because a "girl can't help it," sincerely limned her desire to have an admirer's member "deep inside of me."
In a song from "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," Epiphany explained the transformation that cheers her up-"I put on some makeup"-and professed her fervent devotion-"I'm the only one who walked across the fire for you"-despite a defective CD.
Guest Bridget Everett, in raucous redneck mode, borrowed this writer's motorcycle cap and bared her breasts to call "More, more, more," "in the midnight hour," "with a rebel yell," in Andrea True's song.
"Screen my phone calls"-some nerve!!-exclaimed Sherry and Epiphany, in a Gwen Stefani song, and questioned the "unlikely story" that a lover's voicemail relayed, "(I'm walking into "Spiderwebs (leave a message and I'll call you back)," and brought their show to a close with a zesty "Total Eclipse of the Heart."
Catch Sherry Vine and/or Epiphany at the Ice Palace on Tuesdays at 10 p.m.
Following Sherry and Epiphany, I caught part of Aunt Joanna's show, already in progress. She paid tribute to one-song wonders Nancy Sinatra ("These boots are made for walking"), Paula Abdul ("Shut up and dance" as "Shut up and tell me if it's going to be me," full of "American Idol" references), Sinead O'Connor ("No-one compares" as "No-one's as weird"), and Macy Grey ("I try (to say goodbye and I choke, I try to walk away and I stumble)"), and found a common bond between Anne Murray and Barry Manilow's vocal timbres.
Aunt Joanna sang "The Glory of Love" seriously, as a salute to Bette Midler, offered impressions of Stevie Nicks ("I saw my reflection (in a puddle of pee)") and Barbra Streisand (singing Yentl's "Papa can you hear me?" into a cell phone), and concluded with Mama Cass ("Dream a little dream").
Catch Aunt Joanna at Cherry's on August 31 at 8 p.m., as part of the "Dining with the Divas" dinner show series.
