The Arts Project of Cherry Grove's (APCG) annual casino fundraiser, held this year on July 25 and 26, had "Casino Royale"-after Ian Fleming's first James Bond thriller (1953) and the 1967 and 2006 films based on the novel-as its theme, which meant much emphasis on tuxedoed and bejeweled elegance and shady characters with guns, in staff decisions about costuming, accoutrements and props.
Sherri Rase coordinated the successful event, for the first time, with valuable input from casino veterans Marge Cozzolino and Francine Sardone.
The event raised $6,082 on the first night and $2,671 on the second, for a grand total of $8,753 for APCG. A portion of the tip money received by those presiding over the card games and wheels of fortune is slated for Cancer Initiative of the LGBT Community Center, in New York City, a favorite charity of late longtime casino volunteer Lois Fisher.
