On August 1 and 2, the Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) held its annual Art Show at the Community House and its title, in keeping with the season's Hollywood theme, was "You Ought to Be in Pictures."
Homecoming Queen Urban Sprawl, sporting a crown adorned with Barbie Doll heads and tights with a suitably paint-splattered appearance, awarded her Queen's Choice ribbon to a 2008 nude self-portrait of photographer Circe, swinging from a tree near the Sunken Forest. Circe, whose work was guarded by her Chihuahua, Timothy, originally took the photo for a show in which artists were asked to express what sexuality meant to them.
APCG President Michael "Coco" Coffindaffer gave the President's Choice ribbon to "Storm Brewing," an oil painting, by Louis Nelson, of a tempest gathering over the dunes on the west side of the Grove.
Other artists showing their work included painters Cathy Eckdahl, Eleanor Eick, Tom Starace and Jeff Greenberg, John Mansueto, and Larry Crawford, and photographers Lorraine Michels, Warren Boyd Wechsler, Dr. Rick Byrd, and Marilyn Jaeckel. Lu Strain exhibited her pottery, Dr. Patrick Frattelone, his needlepoint, and Michael Fitzgerald, his collages.
