On June 16, Sherry Vine made her seasonal return to the Ice Palace, where she'll be singing regularly on Tuesday nights, as well as duetting with Porsche on some Fridays. Chuck served as DJ, as Sherri sang everything from standards to raunchy parodies she had penned.
In response to the unseasonable chill, Sherry opened with a sultry invitation to "(Come on, baby) Light My Fire." To those who don't already know her, she introduced herself in her rap "Sherrylicious (so delicious)." She poked lighthearted fun at age and experience ("I've been around ... I'm drunk and I'm old/My pee I can't hold in") and, in a paean to group sex, sang "Gang Bang" where one might expect to hear "Bang Bang."
In a very different vein, Sherry infused "La Vie en Rose," Edith Piaf's song, sung in English and in French, with sweetness and intimacy, and took a (relatively) respectful approach to "That's Life," the Frank Sinatra number.
On a contemporary note, Sherry, donning strange glasses, borrowed from a Lady Gaga hit and, in wicked parody, came up with "(Can you please just) Poke My Face," rendered Katy Perry's Sapphic ode as "I fisted-Girl!!-I liked it," and turned a certain Pussycat Dolls selection into "When I'm Sewn Up" ("Be careful what you put here/'cause you just might rip it").
Pink-haired Tiffany Taylor put in a guest appearance ("You're going to see me in your dreams tonight").
As a postscript, Sherry shared some riotous music videos that she made. She promises an extensive probe of Madonna's oeuvre in a near future show.
