June 8, 2009 - Thank you, Renée Flaming, for singing to us at your first show of your own, at Cherry's on June 8. Working the room, Renée, a classically-trained singer, sang a sultry and, somehow, intimate "Summertime," from the Gershwins' "Porgy and Bess;" concluded her show with a proud "I Am What I Am," from Jerry Herman's "La Cage aux Folles;" and, as an unplanned, a cappella encore, fervently serenaded mate Mary Ooofaaa with "Can't Help Lovin' that Man of Mine," from Jerome Kern's "Show Boat."
Heaven served as DJ and Renée's guests were Tish, jazzily hoofing it in "Mack the Knife," from Kurt Weill's "Threepenny Opera;" Robin Kradles, in risqué mode, confessing, in Stephen Sondheim's waltz, "I Never Do Anything Twice;" and Mary Ooofaaa, offering an expansive "I Will Go with You" ("Con te partirò").
