Into the Pines Kitchen contains 200 recipes from 100 contributors, including Pines notables Scott Bromley, Gilbert Parker, and Hal Rubinstein. As a nod to bygone days, the book also features a posthumous contribution from John Whyte, one of the Pines' founders. The book includes original photography of the island from Pines artists William Karam, Mark Lonsbury, and Barbara Sahlman. •More About this Book»

June 14, 2009 - I caught up with one of fabulous singer Porsche's three-nights-a-week shows, at the Ice Palace, on June 14, with the diva looking very summery for Flag Day. The faithful Chuck served as DJ.
Porsche began with an up-tempo Lilly Allen lament ("It's not fair and I think you're really mean/...You never make me scream") and, continuing in country mode, cheerfully shared the credo of a "Redneck Woman" ("Hell, yeah")! She showed off her versatility by singing "These Boots Are Made for Walking" as it might be sung in the bass growl of Cher, as a haughty Bette Davis, and, with soul, as Tina Turner, and later sang "You Can't Stop the Beat," the final ensemble from "Hairspray," with Wanda Sykes, Eartha Kitt, Megan Mullally, Judy Garland and Paris Hilton portraying the various characters.
Porsche tackled the rapid-fire Technicolor tongue-twisters of "Orange Colored Sky" with assurance, and declared "You're good girl's gonna go bad," à la Tammy Wynette. She triumphantly exposed the hypocrisy in the "Harper Valley PTA," let us know what's lurking "Behind These Hazel Eyes," and challenged a fickle lover with "You're So Vain." She wondered "When will I be loved" and "Will you still love me tomorrow?"-shades of Linda Ronstadt and Carole King-and serenaded Michael, a hunky hetero realtor from Amityville, with "You're the perfect man for me/I love you, I do." Commenting, "He thinks he kissed a girl and he didn't," she continued with "I Kissed a Girl, I Liked It" for the lesbians in the audience.
With a nod toward the theater, Porsche offered a dance remix of "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina," from "Evita," remaining in the lively Latin groove for "La Bamba," and returned to musicals to pay tribute to Liza Minnelli with "Come to the Cabaret," from "Cabaret," and let us know what it's like to be "Popular," in the song from "Wicked."
What goes around comes around, Porsche advised us, in Anastasia's song ("One day in your life").
We had an interlude from guest Heaven, as Charo ("¡Olé!," "Come a Little Bit Closer").
Porsche took us back to the 1950s with "Lollipop," prompting Logan Hardcore to bring her a pink, bubblegum-flavored one. After a pairing, from "Hair," of "Aquarius" and "Let the Sun Shine In," she wished two celebrants "Happy Birthday" in breathy tones of Marilyn Monroe, and concluded with specialty Janis Joplin ("Down on Me") and Belinda Carlyle ("Heaven is a place on earth"). Long may she reign!
