June 14, 2009 - Miss Sweetie and Gusty Winds have been joining forces for late Sunday night shows at Cherry's and I caught their June 14 effort. Heaven was the DJ.
The tours de force were numerous. "I'm still looking for love," Gusty insisted, in her first selection, and then probed "Interjections" in a grammar lesson set, in part, to the music of Handel's "Hallelujah." Sweetie looked forward to being taken "away to Paradise," in a wild Bette Midler song, and, invoked Nature and requested better weather in a Russian-flavored tune ("And the children dance and sing").
Heaven provided a couple of interludes with, "I wish I were a punk rocker with flowers in my hair," and an appearance as Charo.
"I want to know what love is," Gusty yearned and, after a bit of "I will survive," in honor of Pride Month, shared the tale of Otto Titslinger, unacknowledged inventor of the bra. Sweetie offered her sexy fantasy-"I'm like a prisoner"-and followed it with a Led Zeppelin number, as interpreted by "a dyke band in San Francisco."
Gusty concluded with "Total eclipse of the heart," including the dock as part of her playing area, and Sweetie raised the ante with her intense pairing of "You can't always get what you want" and "I shall be released."
