A wild drag event is held at Cherry's each year on the first Tuesday afternoon of summer-Drag Attack-and this season's, on June 23, was no exception. Fifteen contestants, most in as outlandish, outrageous drag as they could muster, competed in a contest run by Charity and Johnny Pool's sister, Cess Pool. Trashy Couture was deemed the winner of the Miss Drag Attack 2009 title, as well as of the coveted golden blender award, which she must return next year, and the crown, to which she must add an ornament before she passes it along next summer. She succeeds Miss Drag Attack 2009 Tish. In the Q & A, when Trashy Couture was asked to name her favorite summer drink, her response, given suggestively, was Sex on the Beach.
First and second runners-up were, winning the Miss Used title, Ann Phetamine, the 99-cent Queen, sporting a hoopskirt made of plastic tablecloths, adorned with pipe cleaners, and strewing fairy dust during the Q & A, and the new Miss Bottom of the Bay, Patrizia Peppe! Judges were Jumping Jack's co-owner Anthony; Porsche, representing the Grove Hotel/Ice Palace; bartender Andy Porzio, from Island Breeze; and Meryl Facterman, past co-owner of Cherry's. Heaven was the DJ.
The other contenders were Roxy Moron, Bodacious Derek-minus 10, Divine Intervention, Russian Princess Iwanna Suckyourcockoff (Tree), Smelly Lay Clampett, Ova Spice, basketball fan Veronica Laker, Brüno, Mary Ooofaaa, Lady Gayguy, Renée Flaming, and Summers Coming (Heaven). Hirsute young Lady Gayguy created a bit of stir by spending the entire contest with one testicle exposed. Before the afternoon was over, the testicle in question boasted a blue hue, which was, suspiciously, the color of Ann Phetamine's lipstick.
Charity and Cess kicked off the afternoon by performing their traditional opening number, "Sisters," after which Charity offered "Hey, Daddy." Also giving performances were Mary Ooofaaa ("I will go with you/Con te partirò"); Tish ("Man oh man, what a guy!"); Heaven ("I could have danced all night"); and Renée Flaming ("Don't rain on my parade"). Charity concluded the event with "C'est magnifique."
