At the season's second Broadway at the Beach, hosted by singer Brandon Cutrell and pianist Ray Fellman, at the Ice Palace on June 29, openly lesbian cabaret icons Jeanne MacDonald and Marieann Meringolo, who had sung on Rick Leonard's Cabaret by the Bay series several summers ago, put in welcome surprise appearances to sing to us once more.
With a tongue in cheek apology for the gender, Jeanne offered "Can't Help Loving That Man of Mine," and Marieann favored us with "My Romance." (Marieann sang "La Vie en Rose" to some of us later on.) Featured at the gala theater party were Susie Mosher ("Hairspray," "Cashino"), Marla Mindelle ("South Pacific"), Nick Dothée ("August and Everything After" CD and August 10 Laurie Beechman Theatre concert), and Alysha Umphress, co-host of the After Party with Brandon and Ray on Fridays at the Beechman.
Locals who sang were Bob "Rose" Levine, William George McGarvey, Colm Reilly, Brian Roland, and this writer.
