June 15, 2009 - Cherry's hosted the first "Ann Phetamine Experience," with Manny as DJ, on June 15.
The eponymous diva, a dancing bundle of energy, presented a punk vision in leather pants, glittery silver and black top, and matching platform boots, as she opened with a quartet of Joan Jett's "I Love Rock and Roll" and "I Hate Myself for Loving You," Heart's "Never (run away)," and Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker, Dream Maker."
Ginger Snapp, radiating intensity in the title song from Kander and Ebb's "The Spider Woman," followed by Eartha Kitt's wry take on "(My) Champagne Taste (and your beer bottle pocket);" Heaven, promising, "You're going to see me in your dreams tonight" and "Pride (A Deeper Love);" and Madison Mansfield, an angry woman scorned in the Pussycat Dolls' "Hush Hush (our love is broken)," continuing with "Big Black Horse and a Cherry Tree," were Ann's illustrious guests.
Ann, now in red and black, complete with glitzy red fedora, looked at love, peaceful and explosive, in Björk's "It's Oh So Quiet." For a grand finale Ann-in-the-hood, led off a raucous rap with "My Milkshake Brings the Boys to the Yard."
We underwent the "Ann Phetamine Experience" and survived! The next one is in August.
