April 27, 2009 - The Fire Island Pines Arts Project (FIPAP) recently announced a slate of exciting events at Whyte Hall for the summer of 2009. The season is dedicated to the memory of longtime board member Mary Myers Cole, who had served as FIPAP president and secretary.
To kick off the season, the "gratuitous nudity" of "Naked Boys Singing!" will be on display during Memorial Day Weekend, with performances on May 23 at 7 and 9 p.m.
Expect an evening of comedy aplenty with Jim David, Cory Kahaney, and Jackie Hoffman on June 5 at 8 p.m. Susan Freedner recently considered Jim David's "South Pathetic" for Q on Stage and Sherri Rase wrote about Jackie Hoffman's command performance at Night of a Thousand Gowns for New York Q News. Fashion is in the air in "Shopping on Sunday," on June 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with special guests from "Project Runway" due. Cyndi Lauper kicks off LGBT Pride/Stonewall 40 Weekend with her concert on June 26 at 9 p.m. Architect Hal Hayes offers a Pines House Tour the following afternoon from 12 to 4 p.m.
The Pines 12th Biennial Art Show fills Whyte Hall on August 1 from 1 to 5 p.m. The leading lady in question, Charles Busch, no less, stars in a reading of the iconic Joseph L. Mankiewicz script of "All About Eve" on August 15 at 9 p.m. Broadway and cabaret singer Christine Ebersole and pianist Billy Stritch bring their considerable talents to the Pines on August 22 at 9 p.m.
Male nuns get in the habit as the Little Sisters of Hoboken, during Labor Day Weekend, in the "Nunsense A-men!" version of Dan Goggin's musical comedy. Performances are on September 4 at 8 p.m. and 5 and 6 at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
