Dame Edith Hosts Hurricane Drag Marathon

On Saturday night, September 6, during Hurricane Hanna/Miss Fire Island weekend, Dame Edith Piro hosted a four-hour drag marathon, featuring a dozen performers offering three dozen numbers. DJ Chuck was on sound.

Tireless Dame Edith kicked off the proceedings with a pairing of "Sing a Song" and "Make Your Own Kind of Music;" did a rollicking "Show him that you care just for him," taken from an Australian revue; and shared a medley of television sitcom theme songs, as well as numerous jokes. Logan Hardcore, boundlessly energetic, blended "And I am telling you I am not going" and "Rehab," fueled by a mysterious white powder; insisted "Keep it positive," which she encored; and sang live "I am so much better than before." Pink-haired Tiffany Taylor, as Tracy Turnblad, greeted her city with an enthusiastic "Good morning, Baltimore." Glittering in gold and red, Bastard Amber delivered a wild "Anything Goes" in Chinese, we guess, direct from "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," and grew antennae to lip-sync earnestly to an instrumental number.

Miss Fire Island 2007 Stephanie Stone strutted her stuff in "Here comes the rain again." Jason Cozmo was Liza doing "Some people" and "Ring them bells." "Give it to me," Madison Mansfield invited.

Guests from Florida were Desiray, who punctuated "Redneck Woman" with redneck jokes and dirty danced with several men and Dame Edith's niece during a medley of "I wanna dance with somebody," "I'm every woman," and "It's not right, but it's okay;" Rebecca Glasscock offering "Right now;" and Franchesque Richards with "I believe in love alone."

Newcomers were Shi-Queeta-Lee-"I won't change my life for you," "I am changing," "You're the perfect man for me (I love you, I do)"-and, sporting the ruby slippers, Baby Powder.

Desiray, Madison, Logan and Rebecca collaborated on "'Cause I'm a w-o-m-a-n" and Tiffany, Dame Edith and Logan led the full company in "You can't stop the beat" for a grand finale.
