Charity's last show of the season at Cherry's, which she called her "Sisters" show, involving some of her nearest and dearest, took place on September 8, the day after the Miss Fire Island contest. Charity, the second Miss Fire Island (1967 contest for 1968 title), had as one of her special guests Rita George, the third Miss FI ('68 contest for '69 title), visiting from New Orleans. Tish Marie, from Boston like Charity, was another guest. Heaven was the DJ and also contributed a couple of numbers.
Charity asserted herself, as the decider in the family, in her opening numbers-"I'm Experienced," "As long as I'm paying the bill, I'm paying the cost of being the boss," and "Two-fisted Daddy." Sweet Charity offered "Big Spender" before proceeding to a vigorous "Workout," and followed a dramatic "Diamonds Are Forever" with "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" as a cha-cha.
Rita insisted that, "There'll be some changes made," and Tish shared some advice from her mama-"It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it"-and confided, "Baby, I need your lovin'." The three 'sisters' blew us away by collaborating on a truly effervescent "Mr. Sandman."
Heaven emerged from the DJ booth to confess, "I can't wait to see you again" and "Girls just want to have fun."
In closing, Charity let us know what it takes to make it to the "Big Time" and made promises about what would happen "After the lights go down low."
