Hosting her only show of the season, illed as "Bella's Ready for Her Close-Up," at the Ice Palace on August 10, Bella presented a starry array of Grove performers, with DJ Chuck on sound. A pasta and salad buffet preceded the performance.
A glitzy Ooofaaa opened the show, declaring, "I've Got to Be Me." Bella and Don Verteramo, in shades of green, upstaging each other, found that "This could be the start of something big." Our hostess and a cross-dressing Linda Dickerman encored "I can't keep my mitts off your tits," which they introduced in Sal Piro's Arts Project of Cherry Grove musical "The Last Drag Show," in 1999.
Ivanna Cocktail, in white fur, then glitz, urged "Get This Party Started" and did so by pouring Stoli directly into audience members' mouths before tossing the bottle, still partly full, into the crowd. Donna Piranha insisted, "You're the perfect man for me, I love you I do." Demi-Tasse, as Barbra Streisand, offered an evocative medley, which included Fanny Brice song "Second-Hand Rose," "I Got Plenty o' Nuttin'," from "Porgy and Bess," the Depression-era "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?" and "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out."
Nikki Starr, as Cher, and backup dancers, the Sexolets, gave us "Take Me Home" and "The Way of Love" before joining Viva Sexx for an energetic "Proud Mary."
Bella closed the show by expressing joy at being "Miss Spectacular (It's spectacular being me)."
