| Homecoming Queen 2008 Margo |
|
As the Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) celebrated its 60th anniversary with a membership party, billed as "Be a Star!" on May 25, its members selected Margo, mate of former Homecoming Queen and current APCG President Coco, as Grove Homecoming Queen 2008. Margo will lead the Grove's Fourth of July Invasion of the Pines and preside at APCG events this season.
Margo beat semifinalists Georgie Girl and Mary Ooofaaa, and additional contestants Venus (without a Penis, a "real girl"), Renée Ryan, Crystal, Ruby Delight, Jo Jo Gerard and Taffeta Darling in the competition hosted by Bella and Panzi. In a new twist, contenders were asked to sing a bit of a song a cappella and Margo did very well with "I Feel Pretty," from "West Side Story." Perhaps she'll be asked to actually sing her numbers in the Doctor's Fund Benefit.
Venus began "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" and, when she broke off, protesting that she couldn't sing, Panzi coached her by leading an audience sing-along of "Do Re Mi," from "The Sound of Music." Renée began "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and then lip-synced to Panzi singing "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling." Crystal delivered a breathy "Happy Birthday" à la Marilyn Monroe; Ruby offered "Stepping Out with My Baby;" Georgie dulcetly sang "No-one Is Alone," from "Into the Woods;" Jo Jo insisted "Ooh, baby, baby, I'm cryin' for you;" Taffeta gave us "Something Cool;" and Mary gamely attempted "Cara Mia Mine."

In showgirl finery, HQ 2007 Lola, who crowned Margo, stepped down in style to strains of "At the Copa" ("Her name was Lola") and, from "Damn Yankees," "Whatever Lola Wants."
