| On Big Party Night, Pines Invades Grove, Cherry's Turns White, & Tides Goes Asian |

On August 19, the Pines had its big Ascension party, but on the 18th, the Pines came west, to the Ice Palace, for producer Jason McCarthy's "Invasion of the Grove: a Classic Fire Island Dance Party," of the sort immortalized in Andrew Holleran's novel "Dancer from the Dance." A special midnight ferry brought scores of Pines people, with hundreds arriving later, to dance to music by noted DJ Susan Morabito, with light show by Guy Smith and Evan Morris, at the all-night event, a benefit for God's Love We Deliver, which brings meals to homebound people with AIDS.

While over 1,000 tickets were sold for the "Invasion" at the Ice Palace, according to manager John Doyle, events at two other Grove bars proved popular as well. Cherry's had its White Party, with décor and party garb reflecting the theme. And the Tides' "One Night in Bangkok" was an Asian-themed birthday party for co-owner Randy Baker, with an Eastern setting, Asian-American guests in attendance, and complementary birthday cupcakes with red icing.
