Sherry Vine sang Porter and Brel, and Kander and Ebb, and Rod Barry danced and stripped to headline the Tides' unusual double bill, "Drag/Strip," on August 30. Michael John was the DJ.
Introducing her set as "Sherry Vine on the Half Shell," Sherry began on an upbeat note, her sound smooth and sultry, with "Under the Sea," the energetic Disney calypso number. She wove a tale of an Icelandic Jewish fisherman ancestor, 'Shlomo Vinestein,' who introduced the gefilte fish, which spawn in his native land, to America, and segued into "Come Sail Away with Me," a song of wonder and adventure.
Sherry walked on the wild side with a seductive "Love for Sale," by Cole Porter, and a hard-hitting, earthy "Port of Amsterdam," of Jacques Brel. She personalized her hot "When You're Good to Mama," from John Kander and Fred Ebb's "Chicago," as "When You're Good to Sherry."

In keeping with the current Asian décor of the Tides' cabaret room, she irresistibly invited "Come on in My House," singing in Japanese. Performing at her first circuit party, in Montréal, inspired her cautionary "I'm Ready to Bump," about losing all sense of time and responsibility.
Sherry shrugged and faced reality with "That's Life," led the audience in singing "Happy [78th] Birthday" to Victor Alfieri, and brought Falcon Films porn star Rod Barry and stripper 'Captain Acrobat,' whose act followed, to the stage.
Barry and his colleagues' performance continued on the Tides' deck bar, back in the cabaret room, and elsewhere in the bar.
