I looked in on a late-in-the season-September 23; marathon-more than two-dozen number; 'by request' Porsche show at the Ice Palace, with DJ Chuck assisting.
Porsche opened with upbeat country/western selections, "The best thing about being a woman" and "Redneck Woman," adapting a line as, "I know all the words to every Judy Garland song." She sang a sunny "Good Morning, Baltimore," from "Hairspray" (my request); had a Linda Ronstadt moment with "When Will I Be Loved;" and limned Ian Fleming's "Goldfinger" in earth mother tones, à la Shirley Bassey.
She went back to the early 1970s for Melanie's "I've got a brand new pair of roller skates (you've got a brand new key);" apologized, Brenda Lee-style, with, "I'm Sorry;" and declared independence, in no uncertain terms, with, "You don't own me." Singing "You're the perfect one for me" attracted a furry fan, who joined her on stage. She continued with "(Right now) Before He Cheats" and yearned, in a light timbre, in "Some Day Soon" (requested by Valhalla's John Richards). She followed part of Annie Lennox's "Sweet Dreams" with Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone" (Lazy Susan and Christian's request).

From "Fire Island-the Musical," a work-in-progress, Porsche offered her and Tommy Kirby's parodies "The Pines Song," with bored Pines boys querying "Isn't there anything else here to do?" to the tune of "My Favorite Things," and "The Grove Song" ("You're in Cherry Grove, drama everyday"), a cappella, to strains of the "Lonely Goatherd." The "Ocean Beach Song," dealing with sexual confusion, to the melody of "Edelweiss," is coming soon.
Porsche sang "I Will Always Love You," in response to Tides DJ Michael John's request for some Whitney Houston. She dedicated "Oh, Mickey," sung as "Oh, Hickey, you're so fine," to television news "icon" McGee Hickey ("before the makeover"), and (for Gary), darkly dreamy accounts of the Carpenters' "Superstar" and part of "Close to you." She made a valiant stab at "Don't sleep in the subway."
Lazy Susan, seated on the stage floor, accompanied Porsche's "We belong" with interpretive percussion. Porsche delivered a sensitive "The Rose" and reached back to the Woodstock era for "Somebody to love" and, from her ever-popular Janis Joplin repertory, no-hold-barred performances of "Piece of My Heart" and "Cry, Baby." She closed with Amy Winehouse's protest against going to "Rehab" and, from "Dreamgirls," a wounded, but hopeful "One Night Only. Her romantic encore was "At Last," which got couples on their feet slow dancing.
