Charity made a welcome post-Labor Day guest appearance at the Tides, on September 10, and played host to Renée Flaming and, as Liza Minelli, Jason Cosmo. Michael John served as DJ.
A glittering Charity opened with "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," "Diamonds Are Forever," as a cha-cha, and, demanding no more than she deserved, "Hey, Daddy." A survivor, celebrating the 40th anniversary of being crowned as Miss Fire Island, she recalled witnessing the Stonewall Rebellion, history in the making, in 1969, when she lived at Gay Street and Waverly Place. Charity told us what it takes to get to "The Big Time," turned to jazz with "A Tisket, A Tasket," and expressed a fervent wish for some squeezing, hugging, kissing and "Stuff Like That There."
Renée offered "Home," from "The Wiz," which she dedicated to our own home, Cherry Grove; went wild letting us know that "Trouble is a woman with a man on her mind;" and sang us a bit of "Diamonds Are Forever."

In "Ring Them Bells," Jason's Liza told us how New Yorker Shirley Devore met the man next door, in "Yugoslavia, yet;" went into serious mode for "Maybe This Time;" and concluded on an upbeat note with "Come to the Cabaret."
Opting for the zebra skin look, Charity gave us "Fever," issued a steamy "Welcome to Paradise," and reminisced about her mother and her influence. For a finale, she poured her heart out in "Piece of My Heart," a song from the time of her Miss Fire Island victory, and, for encores, got hot with "Hard Hearted Hannah" and told off a two-faced lover with "Daddy, get lost."
