Bella Celebrates 25 Years
of Ice Palace Shows |
by Bruce-Michael Gelbert
|
Bella celebrated 25 years of presenting shows at the Ice Palace with a special silver anniversary show there on August 5. Glamorous in gold, trimmed with orange feathers, an orange boa flung over one shoulder, our hostess opened with a rousing "Sing, You Sinners." During the evening, she recounted some of her favorite stories, as requested, including the ones about encounters with a monkey and with a ferocious dog, appeased only with pignoli cookies, in the Pines; going to Rye Playland in drag at age 13; and visiting relatives in Italy as a child and being convinced they were serving rat, instead of rabbit, for dinner.
Bella's first guest, Angela Mercy, once again brought down the house with the "Grey Gardens" selection ("And that's the revolutionary costume for today") that she offered at last month's Bella Show. Angela and friend returned as Celine Dion and Elvis in duet.
Donna Piranha delivered a hot "Get This Party Started," most surprisingly, à la Shirley Bassey.
In silver in honor of Bella's anniversary, Ivanna Cocktail gamely got through her song ("I want to know what love is") despite a couple of technical glitches.
Lee Sharmat strutted her stuff in Annie Lennox and Eurythmics number "Would I Lie to You?"
Bodacious Bella, in rosy glitz, brought the show to a close, declaring, "You've got to have boobs."
