At noon, on July 28, Homecoming Queen Lola Galore cut the ribbon outside the Community House to open officially the Arts Project of Cherry Grove's two-day, 58th annual Art Show. Queen Lola soon awarded her Queen's Choice rainbow ribbon to Lorraine Michels' photo "Approaching Cherry Grove Beach," with dunes, beach, ocean, and clouds in the sky shot from Aeon Walk.
Other photographers exhibiting their work beside Lorraine included Robert Conlon, with his Fire Island photos; Gimmi Hoffa, with Invasion photos; Warren Boyd Wexler, with Fire Island Nature pictures; and Marilyn Jaeckel. Among the painters showing work were John Mansueto; Tom Starace, whose paintings included illustrations for children's books; Jeff Greenberg; Jolie, who displayed t-shirts with her art as well; Cathy Eckdahl; Michael Peskoff; Kevin Carroll, with childlike images; Kurt Gahan; Eleanor Eick; and Dennis McConkey. Lu Strain brought her popular pottery and Lois Heikkila, her stained glass, including rainbows and cherries.

The show was dedicated to the memory of Bill "Violet" Silver, who passed away during Memorial Day weekend and had frequently displayed his paintings at the Art Shows.
