Grove Enjoys a Bustling First Saturday Night of Season, with Grove Hotel's Golden Anniversary Celebration a Highlight

The joints were joyfully jumping in downtown Cherry Grove on May 26, the Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend and first big night of the official season.

The Grove Hotel's Ice Palace was celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding, following the September 27, 1956 fire that destroyed its predecessor, Duffy's Hotel, at the same location. A short show, hosted by the Grove Hotel's Isaac Steven Vaughan and Fourth of July Invasion of the Pines founder Panzi, featuring singer Porsche; Ariel Sinclair doing a raunchy number, during which she brought a young man to the stage and stripped him; Brandon Cutrell singing an impassioned "Being Alive," from "Company;" and Bella, entertaining with a lively "Bring on the Men," from "Jekyll and Hyde." There were go-go dancers, a flag dancer, and a complementary buffet, and Imperial Court of New York Empresses Anne Tique and Demi-Tasse were in attendance.

Cherry's had its official opening party for the season, under new manager Jacqué Piazza, and Dawn Michaels was making music there. Beside the Ice Palace and Cherry's, Sunsets was open and had a dance floor full of people as well.
Dan Daly was at the keyboard at Jumping Jack's Seafood Shack and we offered those in attendance "I Get a Kick Out of You," "Anyone Can Whistle," and music from "My Fair Lady." Charity was serving dinner and Bob "Rose" Levine was among the diners.

Grove Homecoming Queen 2005 Ivanna Cocktail could be found at the Tides, cocktail in hand, and the lovely Victoria Chase and handsome Roger Cortez were behind the bar.

With mild weather and a big crowd on hand, it felt like the summer season was already in full swing.
