| Arts Project of Cherry Grove Announces '07 Summer Schedule at Annual In-Town Party |

On March 4, some 70 members of the Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) enjoyed a brunch of Eggs Benedict or Florentine, French Toast, or Grilled Chicken or Shrimp over Caesar Salad, and so on, at East of Eighth in Chelsea, at APCG's annual In-Town Party, where President CeeJay Rosen and the Arts Project Board announced the organization's schedule for summer 2007 in the Grove.
"It's fun. It's interesting. We have new shows coming out to the Island," said CeeJay, of the slate of events APCG was unveiling. She also announced APCG's agreement with the Cherry Grove Community Association, Inc. (CGCAI) on "another five-year lease for the Arts Project as sole tenant of the Community House" in the Grove. There was a 50-50 raffle and John AKA Marianne Hoffa held the winning ticket.
On May 27, the day before Memorial Day, APCG's season will begin with its Membership or Homecoming Party, where members will choose a new Homecoming Queen (HQ), to succeed beauteous HQ 2006 Coco Love. A Memorial Day service will be held the following afternoon. Search for bargains at the APCG Flea Market on June 3, beginning at 10 am, and/or assist in painting white lines on the sides of the boardwalk (in the hope that no-one ends up in the brush beside them) on that morning and the next, starting at 9 am (rain dates: June 9 and 10).

Ocean Aires: Nine at 9, the ninth annual classical music evening coordinated by Isaac Steven Vaughan, will take place on June 9. The first shows of the season will salute Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas-"Gertrude Stein and a Companion," on June 16 at 7 and 10 pm, produced by Gaye and Julia, from Santa Fe-and USO shows of the 1940s and '50s for the military-"The USO Show," on June 30 at 7 and 10 p.m., directed by John DeMarco. Cherry Grove celebrates LGBT Pride on the Saturday between these (June 23) with an afternoon parade and an evening display of fireworks over the Great South Bay.
APCG will host a screening of Amber Edwards' new 90-minute film "Words and Music of Jerry Herman," about the life and career of composer Herman, on July 1. Included are clips of Carol Channing in "Hello, Dolly!" and Angela Lansbury in "Mame" and "Dear World." Look forward the week after to Cherry Grove's annual Fourth of July afternoon Invasion of the Pines, the huge, riotous drag event, led by its founder, Panzi. Play Super Bingo at the Community House that evening and later that week, on the 7th, party at APCG's Caribbean-themed dance.
Occupying the next three weekends will be annual events the Doctors Fund Benefit, conceived by Donald Labohn, on July14 at 7 and 10 pm; Casino, APCG's largest fundraiser of the season, on the 21st from 8 pm to 2 am and 22nd from 6 pm to midnight; and the Art Show, on the 28th and 29th from noon to 10 pm.
On August 4 at 7 and 9 pm, APCG presents award-winning performance artist Jade Esteban Estrada, erstwhile choreographer and lead dancer for Charo, in his solo musical "Icons: the Lesbian and Gay History of the World." For Labor Day Weekend, Matt Baney will pay tribute anew to the Grove's fabulous HQs ("my girls," as he calls them) with "Legends II," on September 1 at 7 and 10 pm, and indefatigable Fire Island legend Rose Levine follows in Fanny Brice and Ethel Merman's footsteps and sings timeless repertory to us once more on the 2nd at 7 and 10 pm.
The annual Fire Island Film & Video Festival, a joint effort with the Long Island Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, runs from September 13 to 16 and the season ends with APCG's gala Ball on the 29th at 9 pm.
Weekly events at the Community House are Yoga, courtesy of Edrie Ferdun, on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 9 am, and Bingo games on Sundays at 7 pm.
CGCAI 's Membership Party is scheduled for May 19 and its fundraiser for August 11.
